Description: The first ever Spirit of Africa Festival is scheduled to take place on Africa Day, Sunday 25th May. The event will be officially opened by Galway Mayor Tom Costello at Eyre Square at 1pm on Sunday 25th May 2008. |

"Reap the Runway" African Fashion Show
Organised by Chidi Ikegwuruka , fashion designer from Nigeria whose experience as participating model together with Carol Rafferty event organiser and Susannah Usiebemhen fashion critic plus 12 models showcase their outstanding display of traditional and modern styles .
2pm SCREEN ROOM
Matthew Noone Storytelling for Children
His style of telling uses African drums, Indian lutes and the odd touch of rockin guitar which creates a rich sensory experience of the myths and folk tales he weaves
3PM MAIN STAGE
Tribal Spirit Drumming & Singing Workshop with John Bowker, Irelands leading drum facilitator, teaches the magic and power of following the way of Rhythm and Chant.
Drums provided, accompanied children welcome.
5PM SCREEN ROOM
"TRADING INJUSTICE" the Ghana tomato story 2006.
Channel 4 producer David Marks movie explores the issues facing tomato farmers in northern Ghana whose livelihoods are under threat by neo-liberal policies.
5.30PM SCREEN ROOM
"JOURNEY OF A LIFETIME" 2007.
A Film review that followed Jacintha Friel and FCF Choir members on their recent fellowship visit to South Africa

1.30PM FCF African Choir
Nigerian group led by Pastor Larry Ovie, who released a spectacular CD Rise up Join Hands with featured artists Esse Agesse and soloists Jacinta Friel and rapper Mitchell Okeke. This fantastic choir use reggae rhythms and soul melodies to praise the Lord and get you up on your feet to dance.
2PM Matthew Noone Storyteller

2.30PM MERRIAM DIKE sings with local South African groups and recently performed as a special guest on forthcoming Sean Keane DVD " The Scattering". Also featured on the Sean Agus Nua CD with her song TheledI
3PM ReapThe Runway Fashion Display
Designer Chidi Ikegwuruka together with Carol Rafferty and Susannah Usiebemhen show their latest range of African Fashion styles
3.30PM Perkus Negu Drummers Group
Reggae singer Dread joins forces with tribal drumming group performing spiritual rhythms chants and beats. Following his latest CD "Dread le Scout"
4PM Jeanette Mokoena
originally from South Africa. She has a strong passion for inspirational music like gospel, cultural, blues and reggae. She feels it must be heard and is here to whisper the melodies into our ears.
4.30PM Nkulueko
African Jazz group led by Saxophonist Andile Meshack, originally from South Africa accompanied by musicians from the Black Magic Orchestra to play upbeat funky party rhythms. The bands name translates as freedom. and regularly perform in a variety of venues in Galway over the last few years.
