5 Tips To Picking A Grand National Winner
For those of you who want to choose your own Grand National winner, we’ve broken it down into 5 quick tips on what to look out for. After this, you’ll give John McQuirick a run for his money!

1. Age
Young horses don’t have a great record at the Grand National. They have the speed but not the stamina or experience. You need a horse that’s at its peak to survive one of the world’s toughest races.
Concentrate on horses aged 8-12. The 2009 winner Mon Mome was aged 9

2. Weight
This is one of the most important things to look at. The Grand National is the longest and toughest race so it’s important that your horse isn’t carrying any extra weight.
Concentrate on horses carrying no more than 11st 5lbs
Choose your Grand Winner based on their weight

3. Experience
Your horse needs to have experience. This is one of the world’s toughest races, and a novice just isn’t going to cut it. Your horse has to have experience in jumping, to clear the massive fences. They need to have proven stamina and the ability to perform in top races.
Concentrate on horses with experience + a proven track record

4. Trainers + Jockeys
You should focus on the horses ability rather than the jockey and trainer. Some of the best jockeys have never won this race. Granted some trainers have a better history at the National than others. Nigel Twiston Davies has trained two winners + Ginger McCain has won 4 Grand Nationals in total. Keep an eye out for horses from stables that have already won the National. And don’t be put off if your horse has an inexperienced jockey.
Concentrate on the horse’s ability. Keep an eye out for horses from stables that have already won

5. Choose your bookie wisely!
So you’ve chosen your horse. Now, you need to decide where to place your bet. This is important. You need to make sure you get value for your money. Check what bookie is offering the best price for your horse and the biggest Free Bet.
