Ballintaggart House Hostel

Ballintaggart House is a 300 year old manor house, situated on the main Dingle/Tralee road, on the Dingle Peninsula, overlooking Dingle Bay and the Ring of Kerry.

It has operated as a hostel since 1990 and was fully restored in 1996 to provide en suite Private and Family rooms with fully serviced Campsite and Caravan Park.

Interesting Facts

Built in 1703 as a Hunting Lodge, this house functioned as a soup kitchen during the "Great Hunger". The giant soup urns can be seen in the court yard.

The Hostel retains its old world atmosphere and is reputed to be haunted. Numerous tales abound locally. The best known concerns that of a headless coachman who patrols the ten acre lawn throughout the night protecting the White Lady.

Ballintaggart Camping

Ballintaggart Camping site is situated on the grounds of a 1703 Hunting Lodge close to Dingle town overlooking the bay with easy access to beaches and the famed rock climbing site at Doonshean. Onsite facilities include self-catering kitchen, showers, toilets, electricity connection and laundry.

Directions

By Road

Tralee is 40 kms from Dingle, 45 kms from Killarney. Bus Eireann runs a comprehensive bus service to Dingle from Tralee and Killarney, summertime only from Killarney. There is a request bus stop outside of Ballintaggart, ask the Driver when boarding! Bus Eireann offers a "Rambler Ticket" which gives you unlimited travel for 3, 8 or 15 days. If driving from Tralee take the N86 to Dingle, via Ananscaul. From Killarney travel the road that goes via the famous Inch Strand. Ballintaggart House is on the right as you approach Dingle town.

By Sea

When travelling by ferry you will arrive at either, Cork, Rosslare or Dun Laoghaire. Cork is connected to Britain via Cork/Swansea Ferries and continental Europe by Irish Ferries. Rosslare is serviced by Irish Ferries which connects the port with Britain and Continental Europe. At Dun Laoghaire Irish Ferries also connect the port with Britain and Continental Europe. From all three ports Bus Eireann runs a bus service to Dingle, via Tralee.

By Air

Kerry Regional Airport is less than an hour's drive from Dingle and is served by Ryanair and Aer Lingus. Bus Eireann runs a connecting bus service from the airport, via Tralee, to Dingle. Dingle is also close to Shannon and Cork airport, a connecting bus service, via Tralee is also available.
