Carrick-on-Shannon golf course has been built to comply with the highest specifications of the USGA. The course is situated on the banks of the River Shannon. Golfers can also get to enjoy a nice view of the Argina Mountains from here. This course originally had nine holes. The expansion to 18 holes has brought with it some spectacular views of the River Boyle and Drumharlow Lake.
The old holes are set on mature parkland. The layout was revised when the new holes were added so the first five holes and last four holes of the course are from the old set of holes. The holes can only be described as marvellous. The 8th hole in particular is a menace for those irked by water hazards. The 13th hole can be quite daunting for the casual golfer due to being extremely short at just 200 metres.
