Headfort Golf Club was formed in 1928. The two golf courses here offer a total of 36 exciting holes. The club originally started with 18 holes. In 1998, new land spanning 247 acres was bought which included two beautiful islands on the River Blackwater. A new course was designed on this land by Christy O' Connor Jr. who incorporated the two islands in his design to make for an interesting and original round of golf.
The new course was opened for public in the year 2000. The natural features of the landscape are used to maximum effect to deliver a truly unique experience of golf. On some of the holes, golfers will enjoy the sight of Headfort House which was built as early as 1780. The holes here can be tricky and require good club selection.
