If you are looking to enjoy the thrill and excitement of some fabulous golf action in County Tyrone, you really have to check out Omagh Golf Club. This fascinating 18-hole parkland course is almost located in the centre of Omagh city. The course has actually been engulfed by the rapid expansion of the city. The layout of this course is pretty unique and interesting. Drainage work on the course enables this place to remain playable all through the year. There are two sets of nine holes each and they are separated by the main Dublin road. One set of the nine holes runs parallel to the Drumragh River. The presence of the river also serves to enhance the natural beauty of the course. The quality of the golf at this course rivals that of world class golf clubs. The varied holes of the course present a pretty challenging test for both low and high handicap golf players. The feature holes at this course would have to be the 5th, 6th, 8th, 11th, 17th and 19th holes. The locals are quite partial to the 19th hole. The notoriety of the 17th hole for ruining scorecards has reached almost devilish proportions. This narrow hole has a small fairway and a relatively large tree protecting the green with bunkers further complicating matters for the players. The clubhouse is very warm and friendly, featuring all the amenities expected from a club of this class and stature. Visitors have the good fortune of enjoying full catering facilities here.
Killymoon Golf Club is another nice place in County Tyrone where you can look forward to some exciting golf action. The club dates back to 1889 when it was founded. This 18-hole parkland course is located on high ground with mostly flat fairways running through the grounds of Killymoon Castle. The 1st hole of the course borders the woods of Killymoon Castle. The 10th hole is the signature hole of this demanding and challenging course. This hole is lined with a great number of trees that make the hole seem claustrophobic. The tee shot into the fairway here requires utmost accuracy and will prove to be a daunting challenge to even the most seasoned golfers. The course provides some splendid views of the Sperrin Mountains. Bunkers are pretty numerous on this course, designed for the sole purpose of protecting the well-manicured greens. Visitors are welcome any time but it is better to avoid Saturdays and Thursdays for paying a visit here. A practice area and putting green are available for the convenience of the players. Full catering facilities are offered for the benefit of the members and guests here. The golf shop here stocks all the latest and greatest golf accessories that greatly help to facilitate the game of the players. |
