Tiglin Hostel

There are two buildings on either side of a forest track, one among is the youth hostel and the other is National Outdoor Training Centre. Hostel was originally a farmhouse which was built around 1870 with a central courtyard. Tiglin was the first built youth hostel situated in the state forest.
John M. Synge, the renowned poet, was a frequent visitor. Wild deer roam the woodlands to the front of the hostel and an outdoor sculpture exhibition nearby is of particular interest.

Tourist Attractions

The striking village of Ashford is the home of Mount Usher Gardens. In the environs of the village there is a famous collection of plants from all over the world. Spacious tearooms overlook the gardens and Vartry River. Tiglin Adventure Centre across the road from the hostel is well known for its outdoor and adventure sports. For walking lovers Devil's Glen is an excellent area to explore. Ashford boasts three riding centers; Killoughter has beach fishing for codling, dab and occasional ray and bass.

Guests must check in before 10pm and must advise the hostel administration if they will be later than 10pm. The hostel remains closed between 10am and 5pm for guests.

Directions to Tiglin Hostel

Road/Car:
From Dublin, leave by the Donnybrook Road out the N11 to Ashford. Take the R763 for 5kms and then turn right into a forest.

Bus:
Hire bus Eireann to Ashford. 5km walk.
Wicklow Town Bus to Ashford as above.
In Ashford Village, take the R763 for 5kms and then turn right into a forest. The hostel is on the right hand side of the forest.
